Covid-19
The Covid-19 pandemic continues to have a devastating impact on people all around the world, physically, emotionally, and mentally. We are living in times that are unparalleled and most of us are still trying to get to a place of ‘normalcy’. Given the repeated lockdowns and ongoing uncertainty, in addition to isolation, withdrawal and reduction in meaningful connections, loss of employment, adjustment to ‘post lockdown’ life, and importantly, the loss of control, has many of us feeling hopeless, helpless and in need of additional support throughout these challenging times.
As we understand that many of you would have lost employment due to lockdowns and/or mandates, bulk-billing options are available to individuals experiencing hardship due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
New Self Psychology is a Telehealth only practice, in order to be able to reach Australians all over the country, as well as those who might not be able to come to a face-to-face session for a variety of reasons.

In order to claim the Medicare rebate for sessions you will need your GP to complete a mental health assessment and prepare a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP)and referral for you. You will need to book a longer session with your GP in order to have enough time to complete the plan and referral. You will have access to 20 Medicare rebatable sessions per calendar year as part of the Better Access Scheme.
A Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) completed by your GP or Psychiatrist (in order to be eligible to claim a Medicare rebate).
In addition to the MHCP, a referral from your GP stating the number of sessions and reason for referral is also required.

Yes. If you aim to claim through your private health fund, please let us know so that an invoice can be emailed to you.
The current Medicare rebate for a Clinical Psychologist is $141.85.
Once you have your Mental Health Treatment Plan as well as GP referral and have provided these to us, we will process your Medicare rebate for you after each session. This means you will not need to do anything, except ensure that your account is linked to Medicare through the MyGov portal. Rebates usually take 2-3 business days to show up in your account.
If you are not a bulk-billed client, you will need to pay in full at the end of your session and we will arrange for your Medicare rebate to be sent to your nominated bank account.
We need a minimum of 24 hours notice to avoid a cancellation fee. A 100% consultation fee will be charged if less than 24 hours notice is received. This applies to rescheduling, failure to attend appointments, as well as cancellations. Please note, Medicare does not cover missed appointments due to cancellation, rescheduling, or failure to attend appointments, and the fee is covered by the client directly. This fee is waived if a medical certificate is provided indicating the missed session is due to the client being unable to attend due to a medical reason.
